FRANCISCO BANDEIRA, MD, PhD, FACE

Dr. Francisco Bandeira, graduated in medicine from the University of Pernambuco, Brazil, in 1979. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Agamenon Magalhaes Hospital/National Institute of Health and Social Security, Brazil. Dr. Bandeira then attended Oxford University, England, completing a research fellowship in Endocrinology and Diabetes, where he began to work on bone diseases and diabetic dyslipidemia at the Nuffield Orthopedic Center and Radcliffe Infirmary with Professor Roger Smith and Derek Hockaday in 1982. He was appointed as associate professor of medicine, in the Division of Endocrinology at the University of Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil, in 1986 and Chief of the Division of Endocrinology at Agamenon Magalhaes Hospital, in 1994. Dr Bandeira was presented as the recipient of the International Clinician Award by the American College of Endocrinology (ACE) in 2007.

Dr. Bandeira is a fellow of the American College of Endocrinology and received his PhD in 2003 from The National School of Public Health, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Brazil. His research focus includes primary hyperparathyroidism, Vitamin D, Osteoporosis, Paget's disease of bone and diabetic dyslipidemia. He has published several papers on bone and lipid disorders and six textbooks in the field of endocrinology. Dr. Bandeira participates in several international clinical trials, as well as workshops, conferences, and guidelines. Currently, he is president of the Board Certification Committee of the Brazilian Society for Endocrinology and Metabolism.
