
FRANCISCO BANDEIRA, MD, PhD, MACE
Francisco Bandeira received his MD from the University of Pernambuco Medical School and completed his internal medicine and endocrinology training in Recife, Brazil. After further research and clinical training at Oxford University, he received his PhD from National School of Public Health in Rio de Janeiro. He has been Professor of Medicine (1991) and Chair of Endocrinology at the University of Pernambuco since2012.
For more than three decades, Dr Bandeira has conducted research in metabolism and bone disorders, and has published many articles in peer-reviewed English language journals. He has served as editor or coeditor of several books in endocrinology. In 2014and 2022, he coedited the “Problem-Oriented Textbook of Endocrinology & Diabetes,” which was released by Springer, New York and was very well-received. He has lectured on parathyroid disease and vitamin D at Brazil endocrine meetings as well as many other countries, including the U.S., Jordan, Italy, Portugal, Argentina, and Chile.
In recognition of Dr Bandeira’s stature as an international endocrinologist, AACE honored him with F.A.C.E. in 1996, the ACE International Clinician Award in 1997 and M.A.C.E. in 2021.
His scholarly activities have been outstanding, and he is recognized as aninternational authority in bone disorders. He is the quintessential endocrinologist who has successfully combined research, teaching, and practice in a unique model in Brazil.
